Welcome to the web site for the Southport Masonic Group.  Freemasons have met in Southport for over 150 years - the town’s first Lodge, the Lodge of Unity No. 613, was Founded in 1853 and is one of the oldest in Lancashire. Today, around 850 Freemasons meet in 26 Lodges,13 Royal Arch Chapters and various other Masonic Orders, making Southport one of the largest Groups in the Province.

The Masonic Hall at Duke Street is a well known local landmark, and one of the finest Masonic meeting places in West Lancashire. All but two of the town’s Lodges meet here, with one meeting at the Prince of Wales Hotel, and one at the Amelan Hall.

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest fraternal societies, and is based on three great principles:  Brotherly Love, Relief (Charity) and Truth.  Freemasons take the ‘serious’ side of Freemasonry seriously, but we also enjoy ourselves and aim to provide a friendly, family atmosphere for all our members. Lodges and Chapters hold a variety of social activities, together with Group events including an annual Ball, regular dinner dances, golf and bowling tournaments, a computer club and the "Three Degrees Club" for new members. There is an active and well supported Luncheon Club for the wives and widows of Freemasons. Every year there is a children’s Christmas party, Christmas Fayre and Group Carol Service.

Masonic volunteers operate “MAGIC,” a telephone help line manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to offer assistance and emergency aid to anyone in the Masonic community who needs it, especially our older members and widows.

Charity is at the heart of Freemasonry, and Masonic social events all help to add to the support given by Southport Freemasons to Masonic and non-Masonic Charities.

We are always happy to hear from anyone interested in joining, or wishing to learn more about Freemasonry in Southport. Please e-mail the Group Secretary, Charles Paton <groupsec@btinternet.com>

I hope that you will enjoy your visit to our web site, and find what you are looking for. Our webmaster, Nic Carapanagiotu, will welcome any comments or suggestions.
