"TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT FREEMASONRY!"

A frequently asked request! This short summary is designed to give non-Masons a 'taste' of Freemasonry. The following brief statements were created by a group of local Masons in response to frequently asked questions and queries about Freemasonry in general.

Freemasonry is Universal

By becoming a Freemason you join a worldwide fraternity with millions of members.
We meet together in Lodges. If you join you will be able to visit Lodges in your locality or area and in just about every major town and city in England. There are Lodges throughout the rest of the United Kingdom and many other countries spread across the globe.
Wherever you choose to visit, as a Freemason, you will be assured of a genuine welcome.

Personal Development

Freemasonry will contribute to your personal development. In particular your:

Social skills through meeting and talking to people from all walks of life;
Organisational skills through a participation in aspects of running your Lodge;
Self-confidence by taking an active part in ceremonies.

Whenever you want to try and do something in Freemasonry, you will always find other Masons eager and willing to help, if required.

Freemasons Care

Freemasons give millions of pounds every year to non-Masonic charities. e.g. every hospice in the country benefits annually from our donations.
Freemasons are committed to caring for each other and their families, especially when help is necessary.

When required, assistance is available from your own Lodge and also from Masonic charities at regional and national level e.g. dependent on individual circumstances and needs, straight forward financial aid toward medical help or ensuring that the children of a Freemason receive an education appropriate to their abilities.

Social Aspects

Freemasonry will provide you with countless opportunities to make new friends from all walks of life.
As Freemasons, we have a desire to enjoy ourselves and help others.
Masonic events and activities will provide you and your family with ample opportunities to take part, providing everyone the chance to make new acquaintances and friends.

At the local level you will find a wide variety of social events such as informal dining nights, Ladies' Evenings, BBQ's, Children's Christmas Parties, Garden Parties, Bowls and Golf Tournaments, Computer Clubs, Ladies Luncheon Clubs, Sportsman's Dinners, Wine Tasting Evenings, etc. Regional events include the Annual Ball, Caravan and Classic Car Rallies, Clay Pigeon Shoots and Bowls and Golf Tournaments.
